Juris is an integrated solution. It is fully date sensitive but with features that let you limit who can enter a prior period transaction. And when it comes to month-end processing—there is none. No special steps or disruptions in the normal office routine are necessary to close the month. There is no need to finish one month before starting the next. When it comes to billing, Juris gives you the ability to design your own reusable bill formats, visually on screen, with control over fonts and with the ability to embed objects from spreadsheets to graphics and artwork, right on the bill. You have easy-to-use word processing style bill editing while Juris automatically handles all the accounting for you. You never have to go any deeper into a bill than needed to edit or adjust prebill information.

Multiple Offices:
Juris accommodates both profit centers and multiple offices with the accounting flexibility to meet the wide range of accounting practices common among private law firms. The system distinguishes between fees, cash expenses and noncash expenses. It accommodates up to three different levels of sales or professional service taxes that can be varied by office.

Budgeting:
Juris has been designed to facilitate management of the firm from virtually every angle. It includes firm-wide financial budgets and comparatives to the prior year. Plus, it provides timekeeper budgets—and budgets at the matter or case level with the option, by individual matter, of budgeting by client-defined phases, task codes, timekeeper or activity, or any combination of these, as needed.

Task and Activity Codes:
Most consultants today say the key competitive advantage for the years ahead is “Case or Matter Management.” Juris gives the firm the ability to use uniform task, activity and expense codes that automatically translate to alternative codes, if any, required by a particular client. That means that the firm who chooses to do so can collect, analyze and formulate price and business development strategies using empirical data by type and style of matter.

Client/Matter Information:
Juris is designed to automate the handling of the unique individual pricing, billing and reporting requirements of each case or matter. You can inventory multiple client addresses for use when setting up new matters. You can create consolidation groups, for example, “Widgets - Eastern Region” and “Widgets - Western Region” and then assign new matters as they are set up to the appropriate consolidation group. You can direct the system to automatically produce multiple copies of a given matter’s bill as a routine part of the billing process. You can even have multiple copies of the bills addressed to different addresses—each with a notation as to its purpose, i.e., payment copy, information only, etc. You can instruct the system to split a bill among multiple parties, apply a discount or surcharge, etc.—all automatically and routinely without any special handling at billing time. Juris use of ActiveX technology means that you can attach correspondence, other documents, spreadsheets, graphics, photographs, videos and artwork to the client/matter record. You can even create links to Internet sites right in the client/matter record. And Juris synchronizes addresses and matter records with Outlook and popular specialized case management systems.

Electronic Billing:
Juris accommodates corporate-specific electronic billing as a standard part of the Juris Client Accounting system. Routine e-mailing of bills to the firm’s clients is handled automatically by Juris. Just indicate in the matter record that a client prefers to receive their bill (or a copy) by e-mail and select the style, i.e., rich text, PDF, LEDES2000, etc.

Transactions:
Rather than simply provide a vehicle for recording entries, Juris transaction processing automates time-consuming functions. For example, Cash Receipts contains a Wizard that will search by matter across all matters within the client for billed amounts that match the paying client’s check. Void checks with a single click reinstating the unpaid item or, if desired, completely unravel the original transaction.

It doesn’t stop there because different legal professionals have different work patterns. Juris is designed to accommodate that style not force you to change it. If you use Outlook, you can track and record your time in Outlook as an extension of your Juris system. If your firm has a specialized case management system, you can track and record your time in that system as an integrated extension of your firm’s Juris business system. And Juris offers a completely portable personal time tracking and reporting system that lets you work in the office and on the road or you can use the equivalent products from Carpe Diem or DTE. They all work with Juris.

Billing:
Bill processing works the way law firms work. Prebills can be selected by individual matter or processed by Billing Timekeeper, Billing Frequency or for a cycle billing group. Printing draft bills can be bypassed based on options selected at the matter level. Editing of bills has never been easier. You edit prebills just as you would a word processing document while Juris handles the accounting for you.You have control over the content of bills as well as their format, including fonts. that means a bill format can use multiple fonts, underlining, italics etc. And, bill formats can include embedded objects—your letterhead, logo art, etc. You can design and modify bill formats visually on screen. We have even built in the ability to export and import bill formats. International Users Group members can exchange formats for clients in common. New formats designed by Juris to meet new and unusual requirements of a particular Fortune 1000 company can be downloaded off the Web!

Reports and Inquiry:
Timely, applicable and reliable information when and where you need it—that is an important reason why law firms buy Juris. The unique drill-down Inquiry provides you with the information you need quickly. Start with summary information.  Then with each click of the mouse, drill deeper and deeper into the information—down to individual billed or unbilled time and expense items. Or, click on a bill number to view an actual image of a client’s bill—all maintained online for you by Juris. Juris reports can be viewed on screen, e-mailed, transferred to Excel or printed as needed. Because Juris is date sensitive, you can print reports like Work-in-Process, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable at anytime for current or prior periods, including prior months and prior years. Online bill copies and on-demand reporting means that voluminous printing, storage and retrieval are a thing of the past for Juris users. And because Juris connects to other software used by law firms, Juris inquiry, including the ability to view client bills, is accessible from Outlook, case management systems and other popular software without having to leave those products.

Options and Setup:
Juris has extraordinary flexibility and depth of features. At the same time, if you don’t need a capability, you can make your version of Juris even simpler by turning off an optional feature. For example, Juris lets you have up to five originating attorneys sharing origination credit at differing percentages on a particular matter. If you only need the capacity for one or two originating attorneys, you can turn off the unneeded capability. You can decide if you want to turn off the ability to vary originating attorneys at the matter level and instead have the system prompt for originating attorney only at the client level. Another example of this ability to tailor the system to exactly fit your needs is that you can decide if you want a 4- or 5-digit client number, for example, or one that is as long as 12 characters. You can also decide what many prompts are called. For example, the system is shipped using the term “matter” but you can change it to “case.” We give you optional user-defined fields at the matter level, timekeeper level, time and expense transaction level, etc. You can turn them off or on when you set up your Juris system. You can decide if they should be alphanumeric or numeric. Where it is appropriate, we let you set field size and validation rules for user-defined fields you elect to use.

In addition to the ability to tailor the system to your particular needs, Juris gives you very detailed control over who within the firm can do and see what. You can, for example, opt by individual user whether or not to show hourly rates on time entries. You can let a person work with information they have entered but not with that entered by someone else. You can give access to certain reports without access to others.

Disbursements:
Juris Disbursements goes well beyond standard “check-writing” software. It is a full-fledged cash management and payables system with the additional functions necessary to meet the unique requirements of a private law firm—on-demand check writing, billing of disbursements to clients, trust account ledgers and reports, multiple bank accounts and simplified reconciliation of all operating and trust accounts. Juris offers both on-demand check writing and traditional multi-check runs. Single entry capability writes checks, makes appropriate entries in General Ledger and puts client disbursements in the client’s work-in-process. Bank reconciliation for an unlimited number of cash accounts is built in and the managing or financial partner can view cash balances and account activity with a quick right click of the mouse.

Conflict Search:

And Juris gives you virtually unlimited flexibility for retaining any case-related information, including affiliated and opposing parties with free-form searchable note cards at both the matter and client level.
